Sculpted Outdoor Living — Kitchens, Seating Walls, Moongates & Address Rocks

Beyond waterfalls and grottos, we sculpt the entire outdoor environment. Kitchens that look like they emerged from a rock formation. Seating walls that double as sculptural retaining structures. Moongates that frame garden entries like portals. Address rocks that announce a property with permanence. All hand-shaped from the same structural concrete system.

Outdoor Kitchens Built From Rock

A conventional outdoor kitchen is a metal frame clad in stone veneer. Ours is a monolithic sculpted structure — the counter, base, backsplash, and decorative surround are all shaped from the same 12,000psi cementitious shell used in our waterfalls and grottos. There are no seams between the "rock" and the kitchen. They are one piece.

We integrate grill cutouts, sink plumbing, refrigerator bays, storage access doors, and electrical outlets during the sculpt phase — routing all utilities through concealed internal channels. The result is a kitchen that looks like it was carved from a natural rock outcropping, with the functionality of a fully equipped outdoor cooking station.

Countertop options include polished concrete (densified for food-contact durability), natural stone slab overlays, or sculpted faux rock ledges that match the surrounding structure. We coordinate with your preferred appliance supplier or recommend units based on the kitchen layout.

Seating Walls & Sculpted Planters

Seating walls define the perimeter of an outdoor living space — they create enclosure, provide functional seating for 10–20+ people, and serve as visual transitions between the pool area, patio, and landscape. Our seating walls are sculpted to match the texture and color of the surrounding rock features, creating visual continuity across the entire environment.

Wall heights are typically 18–24 inches (optimal seated height) with widths of 12–18 inches. Integrated planters at wall endpoints or mid-sections add vertical greenery without requiring separate landscape beds. Fire feature integration — a Fire Rock or fire bowl at the center of a curved seating wall — is one of our most popular configurations.

Every seating wall is structurally engineered with the same 12,000psi shell and basalt rebar system. Where walls serve a retaining function (holding back grade changes), we incorporate proper drainage and structural reinforcement for the specific load conditions.

Moongates — Circular Stone Archways

A moongate is a circular archway — a sculptural portal that frames a garden entry, connects two outdoor spaces, or creates a dramatic focal point at the end of a pathway. Rooted in traditional Chinese garden architecture, moongates have been adopted by high-end residential properties worldwide as statement features that combine structural engineering with artistic expression.

Our moongates are sculpted from the same structural concrete system as our waterfalls. The arch is a monolithic, self-supporting structure — not stacked stone with mortar joints that can shift and settle. Diameters typically range from 6 to 10 feet, with the arch width proportioned to the overall size. The sculpted rock texture wraps the entire circumference, creating the illusion of a natural stone formation with a perfectly circular opening.

Integrated LED lighting within the arch inner edge illuminates the portal at night. Planter beds at the base soften the transition between the sculpted stone and the surrounding landscape.

Address Rocks & Monument Stones

An address rock is a sculpted boulder placed at a property entrance with the house number, family name, or business name integrated into the stone surface. It is the first impression a property makes — and at Boulder Legacies, we sculpt it to look like a natural formation that has always been there.

Lettering is hand-carved into the mortar finish or applied as raised dimensional letters — both methods produce a permanent, weather-resistant inscription that will not fade, peel, or require repainting. Integrated LED uplighting or backlit letter channels provide visibility at night.

Mailbox monuments extend the address rock concept to include a functional mailbox housing. The sculpted rock formation wraps around or supports a standard USPS-approved mailbox, creating a unified entry statement. Monument stones for commercial properties, HOA entrances, and estate gates follow the same process at larger scale.

Outdoor Living FAQ

Answers about moongates, address rocks, outdoor kitchens, and the outdoor living features we sculpt.

Most residential moongates have an inner diameter of 6 to 8 feet, which provides comfortable walk-through clearance for adults. The arch width (the thickness of the ring) is typically 18–24 inches, proportioned to the overall diameter. Larger moongates — 10 feet or more — are used for estate entries, commercial properties, and gateway features that need to accommodate vehicle sightlines. The height of the base (how high the bottom of the circle sits above ground) is determined by the landscape grade and intended use.

Yes. Address numbers, family names, estate names, business names, and custom logos can all be integrated into the sculpted surface. Lettering is either hand-carved into the mortar finish (recessed) or applied as raised dimensional elements. Font style, size, and placement are determined during the maquette phase. We can replicate specific typefaces, monograms, or brand marks. Integrated LED backlighting or uplighting ensures the lettering is visible at night.

We offer three countertop approaches. First, polished and densified concrete — the same surface treatment used on our slides, producing an extremely hard, food-contact-safe surface. Second, natural stone slab overlays (granite, quartzite, or soapstone) set into the sculpted rock base. Third, sculpted faux rock ledges that match the surrounding structure for a fully integrated natural-rock aesthetic. The choice depends on your aesthetic preference and how heavily the kitchen will be used for food preparation.

Our 12,000psi fiber-reinforced shell is engineered for long-term outdoor exposure. The shell resists cracking from freeze–thaw cycles (tested to withstand below-zero temperatures common in the Ozarks and Midwest), UV degradation from prolonged sun exposure, and water infiltration through the sealed and waterproofed surface. Basalt rebar eliminates rust expansion — the primary cause of concrete failure in steel-reinforced outdoor structures. Re-sealing every 3–5 years maintains the protective barrier. Our installations in Florida, Missouri, and across the country have demonstrated multi-decade durability.

Absolutely. Seating walls, outdoor kitchens, fire features, planters, and address rocks can all be added to existing properties without disrupting the pool or existing hardscape. We match the sculpted rock texture and color to complement your current surroundings. Utility routing (gas, water, electrical) is planned around existing infrastructure. For properties where we also built the waterfall or grotto, adding outdoor living features later creates a seamless visual expansion of the original build.
