About Boulder Legacies
Boulder Legacies is a custom sculptural concrete firm founded by Lucas Speakman. We hand-sculpt waterfalls, grotto caves, polished concrete slides, fire features, and outdoor living environments from raw concrete — no prefab panels, no GFRC molds, no catalog designs. Every project is a commissioned work of structural art.
We are not a pool contractor, a landscape company, or a veneer installer. We are a sculptural concrete firm. Our structures are monolithic — sculpted on site with no seams. We use a 12,000 psi fiber-reinforced shell and basalt reinforcement (not steel), and every project begins with a physical clay maquette. See our comparison table for a detailed breakdown of how our work differs from GFRC panels, prefab kits, and stone veneer.
We have 37 five-star Google reviews with a perfect 5.0 rating. You can read selected testimonials on our reviews page or view all reviews directly on Google.
What We Build
We specialize in hand-sculpted waterfalls, grotto caves, polished concrete slides, fire features (Fire Rocks), outdoor living environments (kitchens, seating walls, moongates, address rocks), and Signature Series tiered waterfall packages. Browse our full services page for details.
A custom-sculpted pool slide finished to a smooth, polished surface. Very few builders in the country offer this. Each polished concrete slide is integrated into the surrounding waterfall or grotto structure — not a bolt-on accessory. The surface is densified for hardness, sealed for durability, and sculpted to follow the natural contours of the surrounding rockwork.
A moongate is a circular stone archway — sculpted from concrete to create a dramatic garden entrance or architectural focal point. Originally a feature of traditional Chinese gardens, our moongates are sculpted to look like natural stone and can be customized to any diameter and stone texture.
The Signature Series is our tiered waterfall offering — Signature Small, Signature Large, and Signature Estate. These are proven designs with full customization built in, offering a starting framework that we adapt to your specific property and vision. It provides a clear entry point for clients who want a defined scope with room for personalization.
Yes. We regularly retrofit custom waterfalls, slides, and grottos onto existing pools. The site consultation assesses your current setup and the maquette is designed to integrate seamlessly with your existing structure. Read our guide to adding a waterfall to an existing pool for more details.
How We Work
A maquette is a physical clay model of your project built at 1 inch to 1 foot scale. We build it within 7–10 days of your site visit so you can study the design from every angle before construction begins. Revisions happen in real time during a live presentation. After approval, you keep the maquette as a lasting reference piece. It is not a rendering or digital mockup. Read about the full design process.
Revisions are part of the process and included in the Design Investment. Changes happen in clay — where they take hours, not weeks. We refine the maquette until it matches your vision exactly. Construction does not begin until you give final approval.
A standard waterfall may take 2–4 weeks on site. A full grotto-waterfall-slide environment may take 6–10 weeks. The maquette is typically delivered within 7–10 days of the site visit. We provide a detailed timeline after the maquette is approved. See our process page for the full six-step breakdown.
Steel rebar corrodes over time, and when it rusts it expands — cracking the concrete from within. This is the primary failure mode of conventional concrete construction. Basalt reinforcement is corrosion-proof, lighter than steel, and has comparable tensile strength. It eliminates the number one long-term risk to your structure.
Investment & Cost
The Design Engagement covers your site consultation, maquette creation at 1 inch to 1 foot scale, and all revision rounds until the design is approved. It is applied in full as a credit toward your total project cost — it is not an additional fee. It initiates the creative process and secures your place on our build calendar.
Every project is priced individually based on scope, complexity, and site conditions. There is no catalog pricing — each commission is unique. The Design Engagement gives you a precise project price after the maquette is approved — you know exactly what you are getting before committing to the full build. Read our cost guide for more information about what factors influence pricing.
Our structures are engineered to last decades. The 12,000 psi fiber-reinforced shell is more than double the strength of standard concrete. Basalt reinforcement eliminates rust expansion. Full waterproofing, densification at waterlines and slide surfaces, and comprehensive sealing protect against all climate conditions.
